I did the A.level examination like many of you and went on to who had the 50 cents plain tea at the open canteen at the UoC Faculty of Science. I started my formal education at Ananda College and obtained a Ph.D. from Purdue University, USA. I never stopped my education and have an insatiable thirst and quest for knowledge and continuous learning. I returned to the campus I loved in 1994 and taught Mathematics and inspired students with career guidance for fourteen years. I also had the privilege to head the Department of Mathematics. In 2007 I returned to the USA and joined the University of Wisconsin System. Today I am a Professor of Mathematics. I am honored to be a US Fulbright specialist and to receive recognition with three statewide teaching awards. I am now focusing my research interests in some entertaining areas, such as combining Applied Mathematics with Computer Science and Psychology. I think I have changed helped change the lives of a multitude of Sri Lankan and American students and, by doing so, have given at least some meaning to an otherwise seemingly self-centered race from birth to death. I have worked all my life passionately and hope to continue to do that as long as I can. I want all Sri Lankan students to realize that no matter what background you come from or how lousy the deal that life has given you so far, the future is wide open for you, and the possibilities are endless. I can easily name four decades of Colombo University science students who would unanimously provide a testimonial to my claim. Go, win the world!
